Tell me something about yourself!
My name is Djamari. I was born in Papendrecht, and went to the Willen de Zwijger college there. Now I live in Neerbosch-Oost, but I'm much of my time with my boyfriend Ramon in Hatert. He is an AI’er as well. He likes gaming and drinking lots of milk! Also I’ve got an older brother, Yordi. He’s 24 years old and just got married! He is an electro engineer. I’ve also got a sister, Sumarni. She’s 22 and studies veterinary medicine in Antwerpen. As you can see, my parents were pretty creative with our names, which are Indonesian. Actually, they came up with the name Djamari themselves, there are only a handful of girls called that in the world.
Why did you decide to study AI?
When I was in 4 VWO, I considered Psychology, I think that the human mind is an interesting topic. I was pretty good with the beta courses as well, during high school. Later on, I had to do a “LOB map” assignment for school, then I found out about AI, and I thought that was very cool. It was a combination of the beta stuff and the psychology aspect, the things that I liked. I did a ‘tag-along-day’ with Joris, and I really liked the relaxed, open atmosphere around it. I also considered going to the UU, which is pretty close to Papendrecht, because I was still unsure if I wanted to go live on my own, already. The programme at the UU didn’t appeal too much to me, so I decided to move to Nijmegen anyway.
What is your favorite course?
“Beweren & Bewijzen” was my favorite course for sure! I really like logic, and puzzling with the assignments. “Formeel denken” was pretty cool as well, but B&B is still fresh to my memory. Freek is a cool guy!
Why did you decide to become an active member of CognAC?
I actually decided that a bit later on. I didn’t attend the intro, so I also kinda missed the hype train on that one. I did join the 1C, after that I wanted to try something else and joined the SC. I like to help and support the association, and if you eventually start out, you want more!
Yes you certainly wanted more! Why did you decide to join the board of CognAC?
I saw it as an opportunity. If I didn’t do it, I would probably jolt awake in the middle of the night when I’m 40 and regret it. I also wanted to learn organizational skills! Like how does an organisation work? I’m really into the chief of internal affairs role, so that should be a lot of fun.
In which committees are you?
I’m part of the MC, secretary at the IC and chair of the LMC!
What do you think is the coolest thing CognAC organises?
Real life Monopoly for sure! It’s a great game and also one of the bigger events that CognAC organises. I like to be busy, but I don’t like walking too much, so it’s probably better that I’m helping out behind the scenes!
What is your favorite committee?
I think the LMC, although the other committees are cool as well. I think it’s because I am the chair of the committee and also because it’s such a big event. I really like working towards it.
Are you considering doing some other committees next year?
I’d like to join the AC, but probably in 2017-2018 I think, because of the board.
Okay, now for something completely different! What was your best holiday ever?
Well, that would be summer 2007! We went to Austria for two weeks. I did a lot of activities with a group, it was kind of an organized trip.
What kind of music do you like?
I pretty much like music from the 60’s and 70’s, and especially folk! I like artists like John Denver, the Beatles, Billy Joel, Simon & Garfunkel, the Bee Gees, Elton John and Michael Jackson. I got into this music due to my mother. In house, most of the time we had radio 10 on. So lots of nostalgic music.
What is your guilty pleasure?
Pokemon for sure! In general I wouldn’t tell people immediately if I would meet them, but at CognAC you can say this kinda stuff right away! I loyally watch the series every saturday. I also like the handheld games as well, sad enough I don’t own a 3ds, so I’m a bit behind with the games. My brother also used to like Pokemon a lot, so there is some nostalgy there as well.
What would be a suitable pet animal for CognAC?
I’d say a turtle, they are quite relaxed, as the CognAC’ers are. Also if in trouble, they retract into their shell, just like some CognAC’ers after too much social interaction :P.
